The MLS has stopped, due to the FIFA World Cup; however, the transfer market is running hot with the latest rumours regarding some established players. Nevertheless, at this time, the race to sign these players is between three clubs.
Inter Miami isn’t the only one trying to bring footballers to reinforce their midfield. FC Cincinnati, Portland Timbers, and the Chicago Fire are behind in the race for the signing of Juan Fernando Quintero.
According to El Intransigente, the River Plate star will be a free agent in June, after his World Cup performance with the Colombian national team.
We haven’t reached the World Cup week, and we already have three clubs fighting to get the same playmaker for the resumption of the regular season after the most prestigious tournament in soccer.
Despite the excitement this could bring to the fans, you have to know that all the clubs are at the same stage: the interest stage.
According to the aforementioned portal news, no formal offer has been sent to the Argentine club River Plate for the Colombian star.
Why is this? This situation arose because Quintero lost prominence under River’s new head coach, Eduardo Coudet, and signing him now, before the World Cup, could be more of a risk than a benefit.
No one can deny his ability or his outstanding technique; still, his fitness and injury status are topics that need to be discussed, as there were times while playing for River Plate when he only played one half or came off the bench.
All three teams are waiting for his World Cup performance before making any offer. Although his market value isn’t high, they will sign him for practically nothing, as he is a free agent.
The salary part is something crucial, as it caused several issues for the Colombian when it came to signing with certain clubs.
