Rodrigo Garro matches 2024 feat in Corinthians’ Libertadores opener

Rodrigo Garro delivered two assists as Corinthians beat Platense 2-0 at the Estádio Ciudad Vicente López, opening their 2026 Copa Libertadores Group E campaign in Buenos Aires.
Garro last produced a two-assist display on 9 November 2024, a 2-1 comeback away to Vitória at the Barradão. According to Meu Timao, he was then among the side's standouts, linking with Memphis Depay and Yuri Alberto, and drawing Argentina consideration and River Plate interest. He later suffered fitness issues and fluctuating form, losing his starting place under Ramón Díaz and Dorival Júnior.
On Fernando Diniz's debut, the midfielder returned to the XI and set up the opener for Kayke. Collecting Yuri Alberto's pass on the right, he slipped a through ball that freed the youngster to lift over Borgogno.
Minutes later he threaded another pass in behind for Yuri Alberto, who burst into the area and steered past the goalkeeper.
The pair of assists moved Garro to five in 2026, top of Corinthians' assist charts this season. Since arriving in 2024, the 28-year-old has made 120 appearances, with 53 wins, 32 draws and 35 defeats, plus 28 assists and 16 goals.
In that time he has lifted the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil in 2025, and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2026. Corinthians host Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday at 18:30 in round 11 of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
