Roma’s winter transfer window promises to be one of the most dynamic of the Friedkin era.
While sporting director Frederic Massara’s efforts to provide Gian Piero Gasperini with a brand-new attacking partnership are well-known, the last few hours have led to a reshuffling of priorities in other departments.
The defeat against Juventus and the responses from the pitch have prompted the coach and management to revise their defense and flanking plans.
Until a few days ago, there were rumors of Gasperini’s need for an experienced central defender who could act as Ndicka’s backup, allowing Gianluca Mancini to remain stable on the right-center position.
However, Ziolkowski’s strong performance against the Bianconeri pleasantly surprised the coaching staff. If the young central defender were to maintain this solidity in his upcoming matches, the urgency of relocating to the center of defense could ease, allowing Massara to redirect his budget to other critical areas.
Gasperini’s current weak spot is the left flank. With Angeliño still sidelined after a long absence and Tsimikas unimpressive, the coach has often been forced to divert Wesley to the opposite flank.
In this scenario, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the name of Renan Lodi has emerged.
The 1998-born Brazilian, formerly of Atlético Madrid and Marseille, is recovering from a breakup with Al-Hilal and is looking for a new challenge in Europe.
Holding an Italian passport, Renan Lodi would be a good fit for Gasperini’s full-back play. His arrival could be closely tied to Angeliño’s fate: if the Spaniard doesn’t immediately provide guaranteed fitness, he could be sacrificed on the transfer market by the end of January to make room for the new signing.
