Gian Piero Gasperini wants Roma to completely revamp their attack in January, but they need to find a new home for their current strikers first. While they could send Evan Ferguson back to Brighton early with some minor haggling, it’ll be more complicated to offload Artem Dovbyk.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the rumored swap with Norberto Beto is only a fallback. It could be a last-minute solution if nothing better comes around.
Roma will attempt to monetize the departure of Dovbyk first. They spent €30M to acquire him from Girona in August 2028. Because of the amortization and his so-so performances, his price tag is down to €22M plus add-ons. He doesn’t want to go to Turkey, as previous Giallorossi outcasts Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shomurodov did.
The Ukrainian talisman is on West Ham’s radar, which will need to replace Milan-bound Niclas Fullkrug. He has also been offered to Sunderland, which are helmed by their former director Florent Ghisolfi.
La Lupa will meet with Atletico Madrid to discuss Giacomo Raspadori. The clubs have found common ground on the formula, a six-month loan, which would allow the attacker to play more. However, Los Colchoneros wants reassurances about a future permanent switch. They wish to tie a €20M obligation to buy to personal objectives rather than team-related ones.
They have to tread the needle financially, and the money generally isn’t flowing in January. The elephant in the room is whether they can proceed with their signings, as they have very clear ideas in that regard, before trimming the squad, or if they’ll have to wait to be certain of the exits, which could jeopardize their chases.
