On Monday, Corinthians’ Deliberative Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior filed a judicial interpellation seeking clarification from president Osmar Stabile over accusations attributed to him.
According to Meu Timao, the case follows statements attributed to Stabile in a video by influencer Carlos Eduardo Catalão alleging Tuma tried to influence club contracts. Tuma also says Stabile’s call for a vote on his removal, set for 18:00 on Monday at Parque São Jorge, is irregular.
The petition argues the notice breached article 82, II, b of the Corinthians Statute, which reserves to the council president the power to convene meetings, and that it usurped the Ethics and Discipline Commission, potentially violating constitutional principles.
The filing says Stabile is alleged to have told the influencer that Tuma meddled in club decisions to preserve harmful contracts. It cites two episodes, a change of law firm and a renegotiation of the Camarote Brahma at Neo Química Arena, whose annual revenue is said to have risen from R$ two million to R$ four point five million.
Tuma says the remarks could constitute crimes against honour, such as calumny and defamation, given repeated circulation online. Any penalty could fall under article 61 of Law 9.099/1995 for lesser offences heard by Special Criminal Courts.
He asks the court to summon Stabile to confirm the assertions, present evidence and explain council president’s intentions, alleging political motive and obstruction of Statute reform.
The filing cites article 726 of the Civil Procedure Code as a possible prelude to a private criminal action.
