Santos in talks to end Sandry deal, Criciúma loan also expected to end | OneFootball

Santos are negotiating an early termination of midfielder Sandry’s contract, a move that would also cut short his loan at Criciúma.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the academy graduate is under contract until December, but talks are under way to sever ties with Santos and, by extension, with Criciúma. The player was recently accused of missing club activities, with football executive Thiago Gasparino saying he had been notified on a daily basis.

The report adds that Sandry struggled to fit Eduardo Baptista’s style and felt affected mentally by the situation. He asked to return to Santos to train apart while seeking a move in the next window. Although a plan was aligned with Criciúma, Santos initially barred him from training on his return, and the three parties are now working on ending both the loan and his deal with the club.

Sandry had been tied to Santos only until the end of May, but he extended to the end of this season to complete the loan. He has one assist in 11 outings for Criciúma and has not featured since March.

Last year he spent time at Athletic, registering three assists in 31 games, having been frozen out under Pedro Caixinha before the move. He was reluctant to leave on loan and turned down Mirassol, who later produced a surprise Série A campaign.

Born in 2002, Sandry debuted for Santos in January 2019 and has 106 senior appearances with four assists. His career has been interrupted by injuries, including a right ACL rupture in April 2021 and a left ACL injury in August 2023. He also fractured his nose and jaw in February 2023, required surgery, then an additional minor procedure following an infection.
