Saudi Arabia are preparing to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034, and according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri, they want to do so with Didier Deschamps at the helm.

Deschamps, as he announced back in January, will step back from his role as France manager after this summer’s World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. He has remained coy on his future plans, but he has not closed many doors.

His name has been linked with a post in the Saudi Pro League, however, Tavolieri understands that he has been approached for the national team job. Saudi Arabia could hand Deschamps an eight-year deal as they seek to create a long-term project that will allow them to compete with the greatest nations in world football.

His remit would be larger than simply managing the team. It would also include restructuring the national team set-up, training new managers, altering methodologies, and changing how talent is detected in the country. Tavolieri understands that he could be handed an eight-year deal; it remains to be seen whether it is a (hypothetical) deal that the current France manager would be willing to accept.
