Seko Fofana has joined Porto on loan from Rennes until the end of the season, with no option to buy. The 30-year-old Ivory Coast international chose Porto after interest from Benfica.

The club said in a statement that the loan carries no costs and involved no intermediaries. Fofana will wear the number 42 shirt, a tribute to Yaya Toure.

He had held talks with head coach Francesco Farioli and was drawn to the Italian's ambition. Knowing him as an opponent, Fofana identified with his style and competitive edge as he starts a new chapter in Portuguese football.

Capped 31 times, Fofana lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. Developed at Paris and Lorient, he joined Manchester City at 18 but did not make a senior debut, taking loans at Fulham and Bastia before four years with Udinese from 2016 to 2020.

After three seasons at Lens, where he was pivotal in qualifying for the Champions League in 2023, he moved to Al Nassr for 25 million euros. After a year in Saudi Arabia, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 25 games, he joined Al Ettifaq on loan then transferred to Rennes for 20 million euros.
