Senegal dug deep to beat Egypt 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final at Grand Stade de Tanger on Wednesday evening.
There were no real chances at either end until the 19th minute, when Sadio Mane threaded a pass to Nicolas Jackson, who blazed his effort over the bar.
Just after the half-hour mark, Habib Diarra’s effort from long range was saved by goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
Shortly after, Pape Gueye missed their clearest opening before the break, receiving a pass inside the area, only to fire a tame shot into the palms of El Shenawy.
Egypt’s only sight of goal in the first half came from a Mohamed Salah’s free-kick, which they failed to capitalise on.
The Teranga Lions continued to dominate possession after the interval, but they could not break down the Pharaohs’ low block.
Senegal’s only opening early on came from Lamine Camara, whose shot was saved by El Shenawy.
Senegal were eventually rewarded for their efforts in the 78th minute, when the ball fell nicely to Mane outside the area and the Al Nassr forward blasted the ball home.
Mane has now registered 20 AFCON goal involvements, with 11 goals and nine assists — a competition record in the 21st century.
Egypt showed more attacking intent after going behind but failed to create a clear chance to test Edouard Mendy.
