The collapse of the proposed sale to Sergio Ramos has clarified Sevilla’s dugout, ensuring the current coaching staff stay in place. José Bordalás has drifted out of contention, while Luis García Plaza’s position has been strengthened for next season.

According to ABC de Sevilla, the Getafe coach had been Ramos’s preferred choice to lead the new project at Nervión if the deal had been completed. During the weeks when an agreement seemed near, Bordalás delayed addressing his future.

The complete breakdown between the former Camas-born player and Sevilla’s major shareholders has pushed Bordalás away from a move to the Andalusian capital. After a week away, he has begun planning his next steps, either at Getafe or away from the south of Madrid.

The current board retain full confidence in Luis García Plaza, who will remain head coach unless there is upheaval in the executive tier. Securing safety with three matches to spare triggered a one-year extension. He is already working closely with José Ignacio Navarro on the squad for next season.

His first decision concerns recruiting a new goalkeeper. With Örjan Nyland and Odysseas Vlachodimos gone, the position is thin. Diego Conde, the favourite, Julen Agirrezabala and Ármin Pécsi are under consideration, with academy goalkeeper Alberto Flores in reserve.

Further updates will determine how this puzzle is resolved, and, barring a surprise, Bordalás will no longer be part of it.
