Pete O'Rourke has reported that the Owls are in talks with the eight-time Premier League champions over a loan move for the 19-year-old, who has been with the Citizens since he was eight years old.

Wednesday are able to bring in players on loan deals and free transfers, but Ethan Horvath is currently the only new face through the door at Hillsborough this summer.

Heskey has progressed up the youth ranks at City and has captained the U21s side in their three Premier League 2 games, as well as their EFL Trophy opener, this season.

It's no secret that Wednesday need to grow their squad further ahead of what will be a long season, and the arrival of one of the better young prospects in the game will help that massively.

Pete O'Rourke stated on his X account that Sheffield Wednesday are in talks with Manchester City over a potential loan deal to bring in Heskey, who is highly regarded as one of the top prospects in the City academy.

Jaden Heskey, the son of former England international Emile Heskey, has captained both the U18s and U21s in the City academy, and missed just one game in the club's title-winning campaign in last season's Premier League 2.

Whilst he is yet to make a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola's side, he has played every single minute of the 2025/26 campaign so far for the U21s, and picked up a couple of assists in their 5-1 win against League Two side Oldham Athletic in the EFL Trophy.

Manchester City's academy is regarded as one of the best in the game, and there's always a buzz whenever one of their youngsters is allowed to leave on loan.

Sverre Nypan, for example, has looked lively in the infancy of his loan spell at Middlesbrough, and Heskey may be following him to the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday have been valiant on the pitch so far this season, given the off-field drama which has engulfed the club and led to a mass exodus of experienced, talented first-team players.

Heskey, despite being 19, has plenty of leadership experience, having captained the various youth sides in the city academy, and has shown he is ready for senior football over the past few seasons.

With Harry Amass also close to signing on loan from City's rivals, Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday are looking like an attractive destination for top sides to loan their prospects out to earn regular first-team minutes.

Whilst Henrik Pedersen's side remain, on the whole, youthful, and their current depth is filled with inexperience, bringing in young players from top Premier League sides who could impact positively seems to be the strategy this deadline day.

Wednesday's chances of survival are still seen as quite slim, but the Owls are seemingly doing all they can to help bolster that possibility of a miracle happening.
