Credit to Sky Sports for the original report, with Vinny O’Connor and Amar Mehta revealing: “Everton retain an interest in Harry Wilson, who will be a free transfer when his contract Fulham expires on June 30, as it stands.”
For Everton, this is a market opportunity with logic behind it. Wilson is 28, Premier League tested, technically reliable and, crucially, available without a transfer fee. His previous spell at Liverpool adds another layer to the story, because Everton rarely move without context when signing players with Anfield connections.
Wilson never quite broke through at Liverpool, but his talent was never in doubt. His left foot, set piece quality and ability to operate from wide areas or inside channels made him a player clubs continued to track after his permanent move to Fulham.

Sky Sports also report that “Everton looking in the market for right-backs, defensive midfielders, wingers and strikers. They may also seek a backup goalkeeper.”
That tells its own story. Everton are not targeting one position, they are trying to reshape a squad with limited margin for error. A free transfer for Wilson could allow funds to be used elsewhere, particularly in more expensive areas such as striker or defensive midfield.
The report adds: “Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that Aston Villa as well as numerous clubs across Europe were interested in the Welsh international.”
That level of interest matters. If Villa and European clubs are involved, Everton cannot assume patience will work in their favour. Wilson’s status as a free agent increases competition, particularly for clubs seeking Premier League quality without a transfer fee.
For Everton, this would be a calculated move rather than a statement signing. Wilson would bring experience, delivery, creativity and versatility. The Liverpool history will generate discussion, but the footballing argument is straightforward.
From an Everton perspective, this feels like the sort of deal the club should be exploring aggressively. Harry Wilson might not be a headline grabbing superstar, but Everton need smart recruitment, not vanity signings.
His Liverpool past will make some fans pause, but that should not matter if he improves the squad. Everton have lacked consistent quality from wide areas, and Wilson’s left foot could bring something different, especially from set pieces and crossing positions.
The free transfer angle is huge. With Everton needing right-backs, defensive midfielders, wingers, strikers and possibly a backup goalkeeper, every pound matters. Signing Wilson without a fee could be clever business if wages are sensible.
There is also something appealing about signing a player who still has something to prove. He was highly rated at Liverpool, had strong loan spells, became a Wales regular and showed at Fulham that he belongs at Premier League level.
If Aston Villa and European clubs are genuinely interested, Everton need to move with clarity. This would not solve everything, but it could be a sharp, practical signing at exactly the right time.
