The signs are pointing to Leon Goretzka’s departure. While the 30-year-old no longer has any sporting prospects at FC Bayern, the midfielder is highly sought after in Europe
In the BILD podcast „Bayern Insider“, Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl assess the midfielder’s future – and clear up a persistent rumor
There has been speculation about Leon Goretzka’s sporting future at FC Bayern for months. Although the 30-year-old continues to play regularly for the record champions, his role has changed, as have his prospects. For BILD reporter Tobi Altschäffl, it is clear that there will be a separation in the summer – but not to Spain. „Not true“, he explains in the BILD podcast Bayern Insider about the rumour surrounding FC Barcelona

The Catalans‘ interest has been repeatedly circulated in recent weeks, not least because of the connection to former Bayern coach Hansi Flick. But Altschäffl sees no basis for this. „There’s nothing to it at all,“ he clarifies, referring to the Blaugrana’s playing idea. „It doesn’t fit – with possession, with two creative sixes, with Pedri and de Jong in the center.“
Added to this is the personnel situation at Barça, with returning injured players and financial restrictions making a transfer even less likely. „It’s not going to happen,“ summarizes Altschäffl. FC Barcelona are therefore out of the running for good
While the Barcelona destination has been ruled out, a departure from Munich is almost certain. „Goretzka will very definitely leave after the season,“ says Altschäffl. BILD head of soccer Christian Falk also shares this assessment and emphasizes that the player definitely has options. „He has a big market.“
Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer, and an extension is no longer an issue as things stand. The sporting ideas have diverged too much, and the upheaval in FC Bayern’s midfield is too clear
The Premier League in particular is seen as an attractive market for the international. „The Premier League will really appeal to him,“ explains Falk. Italy is also mentioned as a realistic alternative. „Italy is a safe bet,“ continues Falk. Clubs there are much more generous when it comes to age and value experienced midfielders with physicality and leadership qualities
Although the resale value is limited in terms of age, this plays a subordinate role in Serie A. „All the top clubs are interested – Juve, Milan and others,“ says Falk. Goretzka could immediately take on a central role there
After several successful years at FC Bayern, there are many indications that they will part ways in the summer – without great drama, but with clear logic.
