Manchester City sources are distancing themselves from the latest round of rumours linking the club with an imminent negotiation for Dani Olmo, City Xtra understand.

The Spain attacking midfielder is fresh off the back of an impressive showing at the recently-concluded European Championships in Germany, providing several decisive moments en route to his nation claiming the trophy ahead of England.

With three goals and two assists to his name at the tournament, Dani Olmo registered himself as one of the most productive players on show in front of goal, leading to a widespread transfer flurry for his signature upon the conclusion of the competition.

RB Leipzig have also seen an activation of the player’s €60 million release clause being extended until the end of this week, allowing for clubs to explore a deal in light of the competition ending, and allowing for the player himself to make a decision in good time.

Manchester City were sensationally linked by sources in Italy with an imminent transfer negotiation for the player, going as far as to suggest that the Premier League champions wanted a deal done by Tuesday 16 July.

However, despite the latest round of rumours surrounding the Spanish international, City Xtra understands that Manchester City are steering clear of the 26-year-old despite their intention to recruit in the centre of the park.

Officials within the Etihad Stadium having been admirers of Olmo’s talents for a number of seasons, and considered a transfer swoop last summer. But the understanding this time around is that the club have their eye on other options.

Newcastle United and Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes is understood to be Manchester City’s primary target in the middle of the park, with the view being that the 26-year-old can operate in both an attacking and defensive midfield role.

Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is also viewed as a potentially lower-cost solution to the needs in the middle, while there is a belief that the player would be keen for a reunion with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Concrete movements on either of the players or elsewhere in midfield remain slow however, and Manchester City’s first formal announcement in the ongoing summer market is likely to be the arrival of Savio from ESTAC Troyes.
