Leeds United’s Tampa Bay supporters are mobilising for the club’s pre-season return to the United States, 29 years after their last visit. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s side face Wrexham at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Saturday 25 July.

Founder John Myers moved across the Atlantic 22 years ago, then set up a Facebook community six years ago with his wife’s encouragement. It has grown to around 320 members, including 100-150 locally, with others from Sarasota, Miami and beyond, plus some from the UK and Norway.

Between 15 and 60 fans gather for matches, creating a lively presence on early weekend mornings. They meet at Grand Central Brewhouse in St Petersburg, but plan to reunite with a landlord friend who runs an English-style pub despite being a Manchester United supporter.

That venue displayed their flag, a signed shirt and scarves, and half-time trays of sausage rolls would appear. They met there for years and intend to return once his move is complete.

In April the group hosted club great Stuart Dallas at a Premier League Mornings Live event, with actor Matthew Lewis joining a fan meet-up. Pints even arrived with a Leeds crest printed into the Guinness foam.

The club have hinted at similar activities on tour, offering far-flung supporters a chance to connect. They have been working with Leeds to gauge ideas and hope events could be arranged for travelling fans, with details still to be decided as the World Cup draws nearer.
