Sunderland’s push for Europe is running alongside early transfer planning, with the club among those ‘keeping tabs’ on Queens Park Rangers striker Rumarn Burrell, according to Football Insider. Bournemouth are also monitoring the 25-year-old.

Regis Le Bris and his players can move into the top eight for at least 24 hours with a home win over Nottingham Forest, which would strengthen hopes of a European return for only the second time in the club’s history.

Work is also under way for the summer window as Sunderland aim to mirror last year’s recruitment, which underpinned a season that has exceeded expectations.

Burrell joined QPR from League One side Burton Albion last summer and has scored 10 goals with three assists in 30 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Loftus Road.

The striker has broken into Jamaica’s senior side over the last 18 months, scoring on debut in a 3-2 friendly win against Trinidad and Tobago last May, and has since won four more caps without adding to his tally.

The report adds that Wolverhampton Wanderers are admirers and view Burrell as part of plans to rebuild and strengthen after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last week. He is seen as a recognised Championship goalscorer who could help lead an immediate promotion push.
