Sunderland ‘in advanced talks’ for Toulouse left back Dayann Methalie | OneFootball

Sunderland are stepping up their pursuit of Toulouse left back Dayann Methalie.

According to RMC, Sunderland are in advanced talks with Toulouse and already have an agreement with the 20-year-old, with a total package of about £25 million under discussion and a five-year deal planned if a fee is settled.

Methalie is an attack-minded full back who has often operated as a wing back since breaking through at Toulouse. He drew interest from several clubs after a breakout campaign in Ligue 1.

The left side of defence is a priority after Dennis Cirkin left as a free agent earlier this summer. Arthur Masuaku is also widely expected to depart and has interest from Turkish club Konyaspor.

That leaves head coach Régis Le Bris with Reinildo as his only recognised left back. The 32-year-old was a key performer last season and is now in the second and final year of his contract.

It has been a quiet window on Wearside, with an emphasis on quality over quantity.
