Sunderland have been linked with Lucas Stassin, Emil Holm and Lutsharel Geertruida this summer, with Porto holding talks over Stassin, according to Sunderland Echo.
The 21-year-old Saint-Etienne striker hit 11 goals and eight assists in 31 Ligue 2 games last season. He is expected to move on, with Saint-Etienne understood to have rejected early approaches and set a price of €35million plus €7million in add-ons, roughly £29.9million plus £6million, about £35.9million in total.
Porto are said to be in concrete discussions, which could complicate matters if Sunderland firm up their interest. The Portuguese club won the league last season and can offer a major European platform.
Sunderland would also match the step up Stassin is thought to be seeking, as they prepare for another Premier League campaign under Régis Le Bris and Europa League football next season.
Stassin progressed through Belgium’s youth system and has senior caps. His age and output fit Sunderland’s model of signing players who can contribute now and retain resale value.
Elsewhere, Florent Ghisolfi is aiming to push down the price of Geertruida after his loan spell from RB Leipzig, with the Dutch defender rated at around £20million and currently at the World Cup. Bologna’s Swedish international Holm, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, is valued between £10million and £20million. The Black Cats operated well in that bracket last year, adding Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete.
