Sunderland rank sixth in the 2025/26 Premier League net spend table, underlining a campaign in which both promoted clubs stayed up. According to Stake, Sunderland posted a net outlay of £119.9m.
The season confounded recent trends after two straight years when promoted teams went straight back down. Sunderland not only survived, they thrived, while Leeds United also secured safety.
Arsenal lifted the title for the first time since 2003/04 and topped the net spend list on £250.1m, with Liverpool next on £235m.
Manchester United were at £166.9m, Tottenham £150.4m and Manchester City £135.2m.
Among Sunderland’s nearest comparators, Newcastle United recorded £95.6m and Leeds £91.5m. Everton were on £116m and Nottingham Forest £95.9m.
At the other end, several clubs posted net profits, including Bournemouth on -£90.7m, Brighton -£66.35m and Brentford -£50.2m.
