Sven Botman has undergone surgery on a facial fracture sustained in the Tyne-Wear derby.
The club said in a statement on Monday that the operation was successful. He is not expected to be sidelined for long, and he hopes to be available in the closing weeks of the season.

He was substituted in the second half at St James' Park under concussion protocol.
The injury followed a collision with Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey.
