Savinho has issued Manchester City’s rivals across competitions with a clear warning over the threat that Pep Guardiola’s squad can have on any opponents this season.
That warning comes despite Manchester City’s shock defeat at the hands of Al Hilal to send them packing and back to the City Football Academy much earlier than they would have expected when the knockout phase draw was finalised.
Having won all of their group stage games and finishing top with Al Hilal in the last-16, City were presented with an opportunity to take on Fluminense in the last-eight, and either Palmeiras or Chelsea in the semi-finals.
But with their hopes of a major global trophy this summer, Manchester City’s stars now have six weeks to rest and recover in time for the start of the Premier League season, with the understanding being that Pep Guardiola will grant his side a period of four weeks away.
Speaking to reporters at the FIFA Club World Cup this week, Manchester City’s Savinho has issued doubters with a clear reminder over the impact and presence that Guardiola’s squad can have, in a warning ahead of the new campaign.
“I’m happy to be here with Manchester City in the Club World Cup and it was a great win and I think we’ll improve game by game,” the Brazilian winger admitted.
“There are other great teams too, but we’ll do what we do and improve even more in the next matches. But we’ll focus on the title.”
Issuing a stern warning to Manchester City’s rivals ahead of the new campaign, Savinho explained, “There’s nothing better than when you’ve just had a bad season and you go home and rest. You reflect and get the energy to do your best again. That’s it.
“Manchester City have hired top players. We’re getting along and we trust each other. Manchester City will always be Manchester City.
“I think it’s not just because we didn’t do well last season that everything will end. We can’t forget everything the club has been through in the good phases.”
While Savinho has praised the work undertaken by Manchester City during the summer transfer window, there remains a chance that additional recruitment and alterations to Pep Guardiola’s squad could take place.
Talks are due to commence over the course of the coming weeks in an attempt to trim down a squad that the aforementioned Catalan coach believes is too wide despite the demands of a long and arduous season to come.
City will begin the 2025/26 campaign with an away trip to Wolves at Molineux on Saturday 16 August, in what will also be the hosts’ first opportunity to come up against Vitor Pereira’s former left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.
