On June 2, 2005, Guadalajara wrote one of the brightest chapters in its international history. On an unforgettable night at Estadio Jalisco, the Rebaño Sagrado defeated Boca Juniors 4-0 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals, a result that remains etched in the memory of the Nación Rojiblanca thanks to the extraordinary performance delivered by Benjamín Galindo’s side.
Rojiblanco dominance from the opening minutes
From the opening whistle, the Rebaño made it clear that it would not be intimidated by one of South America’s most feared teams at the time. With personality, intensity, and a clear attacking approach, the Rojiblancos immediately began creating danger in front of Roberto Abbondanzieri’s goal.
As early as the 10th minute, Adolfo 'Bofo' Bautista came close to opening the scoring with a powerful shot from inside the box. Just one minute later, Francisco Palencia found the net with a spectacular volley, only to see the goal ruled out for offside. Those chances, however, were merely a preview of the display that the Rebaño was about to produce.

The save of the match
Boca’s response came shortly afterward through a play that could have changed the course of the match, but Jesús Corona delivered a crucial save on a low strike from Marcelo “Chelo” Delgado. That intervention further boosted Guadalajara’s confidence, as the team maintained its pressure and continued pushing forward in search of the opener.

The historic goals
The breakthrough arrived just before halftime. Following a corner kick from the right side, Johnny García appeared at the far post to head the ball into the net and ignite the celebration inside a packed Estadio Jalisco that was beginning to believe a historic night was unfolding.
Far from settling for the lead, Chivas returned for the second half determined to maintain its attacking philosophy. In the 55th minute, Omar Bravo capitalized on a loose ball inside the area to double the advantage.
Just five minutes later came one of the most memorable moments of the night, as Juan Pablo “Pato” Alfaro unleashed a spectacular long-range strike that found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
With Boca completely overwhelmed, Guadalajara continued to dominate the match. Their attacking persistence was rewarded once more in the 67th minute, when Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista capped off the Rojiblanco performance with a stunning goal from outside the box, a shot that nestled into the top corner and sealed the final 4-0 scoreline.
That night, Guadalajara earned one of the most important victories in its international history and delivered a performance that remains engraved in the memory of the Nación Rojiblanca as one of the club’s finest displays in the Copa Libertadores.
