With four league games still to play this season, Bayern Munich wrapped up their 35th Bundesliga title on Sunday with a comfortable 4-2 win over VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.

For Germany and FC Bayern legend Philipp Lahm, one thing in particular stands out about the way the record champions have played this season: their constant search for more goals.

As the 42-year-old pointed out during a media roundtable attended by Bulinews.com ahead of Sunday’s win, "it’s no coincidence" that Bayern broke the record for most goals in a Bundesliga season last week when they found the net for the 105th time in their 5-0 win over FC St. Pauli.

“They just keep going. Even when leading by three or four goals, they don’t switch off, but keep pushing for more goals,” Lahm told Bulinews.com.

"The Bundesliga is the highest-scoring top league in the world, with more than three goals per game on average. So it’s a feature of the Bundesliga that there are many goals scored, but still – it’s impressive how Bayern just keep driving forward for goals over 90 minutes," added the former German international.

Bayern Munich will now turn their attention to winning the Treble for the third time in the club’s history, having previously done so in 2013, with Lahm as captain, and in 2020. Should they succeed, they would become the first European men’s team to achieve the feat three times.

The German record champions are in the semi-finals of both the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League, where they will face Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

By knocking out Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern have already come a long way, having reached their European minimum objective, according to Lahm.

But in order to create a truly memorable season for a European heavyweight like Bayern, they need to go all the way in both competitions, the former Germany and Bayern captain points out.

“For big clubs like Bayern, it’s about the Champions League. If they had been knocked out by Real Madrid, everything would immediately have been questioned. Things can change quickly,” he said.

“The decisive phase is coming now. It’s been a successful Bundesliga season for Bayern, in which they’ve broken records. But in the end, it’s about silverware. Winning the Bundesliga title means it’s a good season. But to really write history with FC Bayern, you always need the Champions League title,” Lahm concluded.

Bayern take on Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday before their two-legged Champions League semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain awaits on April 28 (away) and May 6 (home).
