Few could have predicted at the start of the campaign that both these teams would be involved at the bottom end of the table, with West Brom narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season, while Leicester were expected to push for an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation from the top-flight.

But both the Baggies and Foxes have been working amongst difficult financial backdrops. The Black Country outfit have been complying with the EFL to avoid breaking P&S rules, which meant they had to part ways with top talents like Torbjorn Heggem and Tom Fellows this summer, but their inability to replace them has meant the team has struggled to fire at the top end of the pitch and contributed to their demise.

Meanwhile, Leicester were deducted six points by the EFL after the club was originally charged by the Premier League in May for a PSR breach in the three years up to 2023-24.

However, that is still in the balance, with both the Premier League and Leicester appealing the decision, which could see the deduction reversed or increased, having a massive impact on their Championship survival hopes.

There are now 11 games remaining of the second-tier season, with the Foxes and Baggies scrambling for points by any means necessary to lift them away from trouble.

And with it coming down to crunch time, FLW has asked AI to simulate each result of West Brom and Leicester’s remaining matches.

West Brom’s simulated results

When looking at the fixture list, it’s a tricky and daunting task for Albion to battle their way out of the relegation mire, with the majority of their games up against sides positioned towards the top end of the standings.

The Baggies first make the trip to the Steel City to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this coming Saturday afternoon, with AI predicting the visitors to fall to a 2-1 defeat.

A midweek visit of Southampton to The Hawthorns follows, with the Baggies predicted to secure a 1-1 draw, before going back on the losing trail by going down 2-1 at home to Hull City.

Back on the road, Albion are backed to lose 1-0 to Bristol City but grab a surprise victory in B71 over play-off hopefuls Wrexham.

In a relegation six-pointer against Blackburn Rovers, Albion have been predicted to draw 1-1, before suffering yet another defeat, this time to Millwall at home. Back-to-back defeats are registered when going down 2-1 at Preston North End while a point is registered back on home soil against Watford in a 1-1 draw.

In West Brom’s final home game of the season against Ipswich Town, it ends in disappointment with a 2-0 loss, while their final day trip to already relegated Sheffield Wednesday ends in another 1-1 draw, which is certainly what Baggies supporters won’t want to see transpire on the pitch.

Leicester City’s simulated results

For the Foxes, their schedule, certainly on paper anyway, looks a lot more appealing to see them beat the League One drop, while there have been positives to take from Gary Rowett’s opening three games in charge.

Starting against Ipswich Town this weekend, Leicester are predicted to suffer a 2-0 defeat at Portman Road before taking four points from their next two home games against Bristol City (1-1 draw) and Queens Park Rangers (2-1 victory).

Another defeat on the road unfolds at Watford 2-1, before the Foxes pick up a couple of valuable points against Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday, albeit the Leicester faithful would want to see the team pick up maximum points when taking on the Owls.

Leicester are predicted to then go on and record another victory at home against Swansea City, before drawing 1-1 to Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

In their final two home games of the campaign, Gary Rowett’s men are backed to suffer consecutive defeats at the hands of Hull City and Millwall, before their final match of the term at Blackburn Rovers ends in another 1-1 draw.

AI predicts West Brom to be relegated and Leicester City to survive

Based on AI’s predictions, West Brom are predicted to pick up just one victory from their remaining 11 games, with four draws and six defeats in that run. That would lead to Albion picking up just seven points and finishing on a total of 42 points.

Meanwhile for Leicester, two victories, five draws and four defeats sees the Foxes take a slightly improved tally of 11 points from their remaining 11 games compared to West Brom, with the East Midlands outfit projected to end the campaign on 45 points, barring no added or removed points deductions.

In a simulated table, West Brom would suffer relegation to the third-tier based on their final total, with a final day draw at Hillsborough proving to be costly, while Leicester City would secure a 20th-placed finish and survive back-to-back relegations by the skin of their teeth.

Championship statuses so they can put these miserable seasons to the back of their minds.
