Manchester City will take on Tottenham today at the Etihad Stadium. Today’s match is City’s second game of the new Premier League season. They’ll be hoping to build upon their impressive 4-nil win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. But in the background of today’s match, the final stages of the summer transfer window loom. It looks like it will be a busy week or so at Manchester City with the futures of several players in doubt, and new arrivals could be coming in to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad.
There are several players whose futures at Manchester City are currently in doubt. Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Galatasaray are willing to meet Manchester City’s £15 million asking price to sell Manuel Akanji. The final decision regarding whether Akanji will leave City will rest with the Swiss defender. Akanji’s future is one topic to monitor before the transfer window closes. Furthermore, Gaughan reports that Galatasaray is interested in signing Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan. Of those two moves, it would appear more likely that Ederson could move to Turkey rather than Ilkay Gundogan.
The future of Brazilian winger Savinho is another topic that will be of great interest before the transfer window closes. Savinho has been heavily linked with a summer move to Tottenham. Rômulo Giacomin has reported that there should be movement one way or another on Savinho’s future next week. It should be known by the end of next week if Manchester City do change their stance and consider Spurs’ offer for the Brazilian international, as per Giacomin’s report.
There is also the very realistic possibility of Manchester City further strengthening their squad before the transfer window closes. Yesterday, Gianluigi Donnarumma said goodbye to the PSG fans. Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are continuing to move to sign the Italian goalkeeper. That’s one move that seems to be every chance of happening. It would be doubtful that Donnarumma would say goodbye to the PSG fans if his move away from the club weren’t imminent.
There still appears to be a chance that Manchester City could move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that City are open to making a move for Real Madrid winger if Savinho leaves the club. That’s another story to watch over the next week or so.
Manchester City do look like they’ll be busy before the transfer window closes. The possibility that Pep Guardiola’s squad will look very different isn’t a far-fetched notion at this stage. Players will leave City before the window closes. That is clear. Who those players could be will likely become apparent over the next week and a bit.
