Liam Delap speaks to Chelsea’s website about how he’s going to earn a starting spot ahead of the in-form Joao Pedro.
It’s been a tough season for Liam Delap since signing for Chelsea. Injuries have disrupted his start to life at Stamford Bridge, and now Joao Pedro is in superb form, stopping the Englishman getting more starts.
He did play against Hull on Friday night, and after the game he gave some quotes to the club’s official website about how he could improve on a bad start, and earn more minutes:
“I need to keep myself fit and stay in a rhythm,” Delap said.
“That’s the same for everyone else. The end of the season is going to be really challenging, and we’ll need everyone. So it’s really important that everyone contributes and focuses when they need to.”

Liam Rosenior is sticking with JP for now – understandably, given his form. But Delap has one advantage over the Brazilian – his existing relationship with the manager:
“I know [Rosenior] from before [at Hull]. I think the messages he’s brought into the group, we all buy into it. You can see by the results we’re getting that we’re doing well. So hopefully we can build on that and improve in every game.”
There is a lot of improving to be done, but Delap has to start somewhere, and he looks up for the fight.
Delap also talked about Rosenior’s team selections in general, and was sanguine about his prospects of playing more often.
It wasn’t clear who score the second goal on Friday night – but at full time Pedro Neto revealed what Jorrel Hato said to him about it.
