Wolves have turned a record-low fear into a late-season chase, and with seven games left, 21 points remain to hunt down historically low Premier League totals. ExpressAndStar.com notes that an early-season slump left them facing Derby County’s record low 11, but their revival has changed the picture.
Vitor Pereira was dismissed after a dreadful start, former defender Rob Edwards stepped in, results initially stayed bleak. Performances improved over the festive period and points followed.
They have moved beyond Derby’s 11, then overtook Southampton’s 12 from last season, Sunderland’s 15 in 2005/06, and the 16 collected by Sheffield United in 2023/24 and Huddersfield in 2018/19. They now sit level with the tally Aston Villa recorded in 2017/18.
Among the low returns they could still catch are 19 for Sunderland in 02/03 and 21 for Norwich in 19/20. Also in reach are 22 for Norwich in 21/22, 23 for Sheffield United in 20/21, and 24 for Watford in 99/00 and Sunderland in 16/17.
The next bracket includes 25 for QPR in 12/13 and Southampton in 22/23. Above that sit 26 for Bradford in 00/01, 28 for Leicester in 01/02 and Watford in 06/07, and 30 for Cardiff in 13/14 and QPR in 14/15.
To better their own worst tally of 25 in 2011/12, they would need another nine points. With 21 available, the scope for further progress is clear.
