There was tension on the touchline when Juventus coach Thiago Motta urged RB Leipzig reserves to ‘shut up’ while the Bianconeri appealed for a penalty kick.

Juventus players were furious with French referee François Letexier in the first half of an away Champions League match at RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

They were 1-0 down when a Leipzig defender made a studs-up tackle on Dusan Vlahovic, who had just taken a shot from inside the box.

The referee waved to play on, and VAR officials didn’t urge Letexier to go to the pitchside monitor to review the incident.

Juventus players asked for a penalty, and while the referee was waiting for communication from VAR, Motta briefly argued with Leipzig players on the bench.

Amazon Prime Video showed the former midfielder telling his opponents to ‘shut up’, putting his index finger in front of his lips and nose. His counterpart, Marco Rose, apologised, ending the incident briefly.

According to TNT Sports and Amazon Prime Video pundits, Juventus’ penalty appeal was legitimate.
