Manchester United have reportedly met the agent of Luis Enrique, who is currently negotiating a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ruben Amorim last January, following a turbulent tenure that culminated in internal conflicts between the Portuguese tactician and the club’s officials.

Darren Fletcher led the first team for two matches before resuming his duties with Man Utd U18 and making way for his former teammate, Michael Carrick, who was appointed as interim coach until the end of the season.

Man United open talks with the agent of Luis Enrique

With three wins in as many matches, Carrick has been enjoying a sensational start to his managerial stint. But while a section of Man Utd fans and pundits have been urging INEOS to give him a permanent role, the club directors prefer a more cautious approach, preferring to avoid a similar scenario to Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s promotion in 2019.

Therefore, United are still pondering their options on the market, as many believe that the club needs a more accomplished manager to lead the squad.

According to a popular source on X (formerly Twitter), MUFC officials held a meeting with Iván de la Peña from the agency De la Peña & Sostres, who represent Luis Enrique, with the intention of sabotaging the Spaniard’s contract negotiations with PSG.

“Manchester United fans… brace yourselves… this is HUGE!!!” posted the source

“A reliable source from France has told us that Manchester United officials met with agent Iván de la Peña from the agency De la Peña & Sostres, who manages Luis Enrique.

“The meeting took place in Paris last week. They tried to convince Luis Enrique to reject PSG’s new contract offer.”

Do Man Utd stand a realistic chance at appointing Enrique

Enrique is a celebrated hero in the French capital, having led Parisians to their first-ever Champions League triumph in what was an all-conquering 2024/25 campaign.

With the 55-year-old in charge, PSG distanced themselves from their old strategy of attracting established stars in their 30s, and instead build his team on a young core that produced exquisite possession-based football. They went on to beat Inter Milan by five unanswered goals, in what was the biggest result in the history of Champions League finals.

Therefore, it is easy to see why Man Utd would keep close tabs on Enrique. However, even if the two-time UCL-winning manager doesn’t pen a new deal, his current contract runs until June 2027, and PSG’s Qatari owners might not be in the mood to release him one year in advance.

While this could be an interesting track to follow, signing Enrique next summer remains a daunting task for the Premier League giants, or any other club for that matter.
