Thomas Bramall will act as fourth official for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Arsenal, days after his performance in Leeds United’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace drew scrutiny.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Bramall joins referee Peter Bankes, assistants Neil Davies and Steve Meredith and VAR John Brooks, and as standard he has no domestic league appointment this weekend.

At Selhurst Park, Bramall dismissed Gabriel Gudmundsson for two bookings, the second viewed as soft after a collision with Ismaila Sarr. He then appeared to forget the defender had already been cautioned until Palace players and fourth official Paul Tierney highlighted it.

Bramall did not show a second yellow to Palace wing-back Brennan Johnson after he brought down James Justin to halt a counter, the player’s fourth foul. He did award Leeds a penalty for a Will Hughes handball, and his assistant correctly ruled out a Jefferson Lerma goal for offside.

The decisions have been widely debated, with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher insisting Gudmundsson was rightly sent off and Johnson should have remained on the pitch. Others disagreed, while Daniel Farke condemned the inconsistency, arguing Gudmundsson’s challenge lacked pace and was not tactical, and that playing a man down told on the game as Leeds settled for a point.
