Thomas Meunier ‘to join’ Sunderland on two-year deal

Thomas Meunier will join Sunderland in the Premier League on a two-year contract after his Lille deal expired on 30 June.

According to The Athletic, the 34-year-old landed this morning to undergo a medical ahead of completing the move.

The Belgium international has 83 caps and 10 goals and recently featured at the World Cup with the Red Devils. In late May he said he had not closed the door on staying with Lille.

Meunier was rated the best right-back in Ligue 1 last season by L’Équipe’s average marks at 5.95/10. He also hopes to play until 40.

Sunderland, managed by French coach Régis Le Bris, will make him their first summer signing. The Premier League side will play in the Europa League next season after finishing seventh following promotion.
