Newcastle United have suffered a significant setback with confirmation that full-back Tino Livramento (22) will miss six to eight weeks after sustaining a knee ligament injury in Sunday’s clash with Arsenal.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 22-year-old underwent further scans on Monday, with the club’s medical team seeking a second opinion to rule out more severe damage. The injury occurred in a first-half aerial challenge with Arsenal defender William Saliba. Crucially, while Livramento avoided a repeat of the ACL rupture he suffered at Southampton in 2022, the latest diagnosis still rules him out for roughly 10 matches.

The England international, who was part of Thomas Tuchel’s September squad, has steadily become an important figure in Eddie Howe’s system, and his absence leaves Newcastle short in a critical period, with domestic fixtures piling up alongside their Champions League campaign.

Livramento has not travelled with the squad to Belgium for tonight’s tie against Union Saint-Gilloise, with Howe now forced to turn to Kieran Trippier or Emil Krafth for cover at right-back. For a Newcastle side already managing fitness concerns, the loss of Livramento is another huge loss for Howe’s side.
