Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec has addressed Dayann Methalie’s future amid strong Sunderland interest. The 20-year-old left back has emerged as a leading target following Dennis Cirkin’s exit.
"Dayann is one of the players who are very much in demand this summer, as well as others," he said. "Today, we are discussing with Sunderland but there is no agreement between the two clubs." He told RMC.
Methalie is understood to be keen on the move, with the framework of a five-year deal in place. Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing over the fee.
The Ligue 1 side are pushing for more than the roughly €30 million, including add-ons, that took Emersonn to Ipswich Town earlier this summer.
"We've been discussing with Sunderland for three or four weeks so Dayann's starting amount has been fixed for three weeks and a month," he added.
"After that, the market makes it so that when you get to a certain amount, not to sell the player would be a management mistake." "They're not for sale but we know in football when you get to a certain amount you have to transition and then change your mind."
Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris, speaking from the pre-season camp in the US on Wednesday, declined to comment and said the club aim to work under the radar this summer.
