Sabri Lamouchi, the Tunisia head coach who oversaw a result that haunted Leeds United, has reportedly been removed after their World Cup opener.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, reports on Monday said the 54-year-old was to be dismissed during the tournament. Tunisia began with a 5-1 defeat by Sweden in Group F.

Lamouchi, a former France international, managed Nottingham Forest in 2019/20 when Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds visited the City Ground on 8 February. The loss prompted Bielsa to speak of diminished faith in his side and Luke Ayling delivered a bleak post-match interview. That setback left Leeds with one win in six.

Leeds drew 1-1 at Brentford a few days later, then surged, winning the next five and 12 of their final 14 to be crowned champions. Forest, by contrast, won only three of their last 15 and finished seventh, missing the play-offs on goal difference.

Lamouchi was sacked in October 2020. He later led Al-Duhail, had half a season at Cardiff City, then stints at Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia ended with dismissals, before he took the Tunisia job in January.

Tunisia now face Japan and the Netherlands, and their bid to escape Group F looks an uphill task.
