Djeidi Gassama’s agent is working overtime at the moment. Short version, the Rangers winger’s time in Govan has been anything but impressive. The former Wednesday winger’s good moments have all come as an impact player, and mosty in the Champions League qualifiers.
His stats for the season read 9 goals and assists in 35 – extremely underwhelming for a winger.
Accused of being selfish, the former Championship winger hasn’t really shone for Rangers, at least, not in any way that justified the Sheffield Wednesday hype around him.
And now?
Now Villarreal and Club Brugge want him? Two European heavyweight sides?
Admittedly the Brugge link comes from Rudi Galetti, who is associated with perennial clickbait fiction site TeamTalk.
He might have almost 200K followers on X but TT is the home of serial fantasist Fraser Fletcher who makes things up daily. Especially about Rangers.
There’s a reason the BBC let him go.
So the idea that Brugge and Villarreal are interested in a player who’s been poor for Rangers suggests his agent is putting names out there to drum up interest.
Reality is Gassama has only been a bit part player under Danny Rohl. Admittedly a lot of that is to do with the German manager’s system, which doesn’t make much use of wingers in the traditional sense.
Oliver Antman also suffered this.
But Gassama, when given his chances, has looked like he learned football from the same school as Rabbi Matondo. Head down, run fast, try to score. Poor decision making and playing the game for himself.
We do hope we ship the likes of Gassama out in this window, but we can’t really see two clubs the size of Brugge and Villarreal being genuinely interested. Djeidi Gassama’s agent is on red bull we reckon.
But stranger things have happened we suppose.
