Unai Emery has reached 100 wins as Aston Villa head coach, the fastest any manager in the club’s history. The milestone came with a 1-0 success away to Lille.

According to Superdeporte, his 55.2% win rate is Villa’s best since the Second World War, and he has done it in 181 matches. He took charge in November 2022, replacing Steven Gerrard.

Emery has turned a relegation-threatened side into genuine contenders at home and in Europe. Villa have qualified for Europe three years in a row, including the Champions League, and are fourth on 51 points with the aim of finishing in the top five. A disciplined, collective structure has underpinned that rise.

In the Europa League, that 1-0 in France leaves Villa favourites to reach the quarter-finals and to push for an end to the club’s trophy drought at Villa Park. Their last major silverware was the 1996 League Cup.

Before England, Emery left a sizeable mark at Valencia between 2008 and 2012, managing 220 games with 107 wins, 58 draws and 55 defeats, and securing consecutive Champions League qualifications. Since his first Villa win on 6 November 2022 against Manchester United, he ranks third for Premier League victories, behind Pep Guardiola on 137 in 207 and Mikel Arteta on 118 in 188.
