Union St Gilloise look to Burkina Faso international as replacement for Ipswich Town’s Kjell Scherpen | OneFootball

With Kjell Scherpen having moved to Ipswich Town and the Premier League, Union St Gilloise are in the market for a new goalkeeper. According to LDH, the Brussels based side are set to bring in Herve Koffi on loan from Lens. The former Charleroi goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Angers and was one of the top performing goalkeepers in Ligue 1. Koffi has rarely featured for Lens since joining the side in 2024 and will be looking to get first team football under his belt ahead of another Africa Cup of Nations with Burkina Faso next summer, should they qualify.

Koffi began his career with ASEC Mimosas in Cote d’Ivoire, one of the best sides in West Africa at producing young talent. In 2017 he moved to Europe and joined Lille, making six appearances for the first team. During the 2020/2021 season he joined the now defunct Royal Excel Mouscron, then linked to Lille through ownership. He impressed during his 34 appearances for the side, joining Charleroi in the summer of 2021. Koffi played 96 times for the Zebras and was one of the best goalkeepers in the Belgian Pro League when he moved to France.

For Union, they are getting a reliable shot stopper who knows the Belgian Pro League well. He should provide them with a capable replacement for Scherpen after his move to Ipswich Town.
