AFCON build up shaken by unprecedented chaos

“Unprecedented chaos” — Cameroon stun Africa
Cameroon’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations descended into unprecedented chaos with administrative infighting, double squad announcements and now controversial callup that has stunned supporters across the continent.
The drama began when Marc Brys despite having been dismissed weeks earlier published his own squad list, only for newly appointed coach David Pagou to officially release completely different group of players.
But events took even more surreal turn when Pagou was forced to update his list following Brice Ambina’s withdrawal due to injury.
The replacement chosen was Mael Kamdem.. a 25 year old midfielder currently playing for Sinop Sport Clube.. a team competing in Brazil’s sixth division.
French outlet Le Parisien highlighted that never before had the Indomitable Lions summoned player from so distant a level of competitive football.
For many observers, the decision reflects the escalating disorganisation surrounding the national team... a nation renowned for producing world class talent, yet suddenly sourcing player from the sixth tier of Brazilian football.
Despite the criticism, Pagou insists the callup is justified.
Kamdem is not stranger to the new head coach , the pair previously worked together at Renaissance de Ngoumou.
Pagou determined to rebuild unity within the squad, emphasised that character & motivation weigh heavily in his selections.
Now the spotlight shifts to Kamdem who must repay the coach’s trust where it matters most on the pitch.
After all , as Pagou put it:
“The taste of the pudding is in the eating.”
Alongside Ambina, central defender Jean Charles Castelletto of Al Duhail also withdrew through injury. He has been replaced by Che Malone Fondoh of USM Alger.
