Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on Manchester City and their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. O’Rourke said, “It would take a lot of money to get him out. A move to Manchester City, I don’t see it, especially if they are pursuing this move for Elliot Anderson.
“Obviously (Anderson) is their number one target, and they are still hopeful of agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest. Chelsea are looking for around £120million for Fernandez, they’re looking to recoup a lot of the money that they spent on him when he was signed from Benfica.
“Maresca is an admirer of Fernandez from their time working together at Chelsea, but that deal would probably be a bit too rich at £120million for City, especially if they get the deal for Anderson done.”
Fernandez had another productive campaign at the West London club after he put in a run of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 25-year-old scored 15 times and secured seven assists in 54 matches for the Blues this season in various competitions.
The Argentine talent is currently one of the best central midfielders in Premier League football. Hence, it is no wonder that Man City are showing interest in him this summer.
His current contract at Stamford Bridge will expire in the summer of 2032. Hence, the Mancunian club have got no choice but to meet Chelsea’s demands for their prized asset.

Fernandes is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He can get stuck in with some solid tackles and can make the odd interception for his side as well.
The Argentina international doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball. Fernandez can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man City.
We can expect Fernandez to bring more quality and depth to the Mancunian club’s midfield. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium.
At 25, Fernandez has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a dream choice for Man City to pursue later this year. However, they would struggle to meet Chelsea’s asking price and might be better off looking at some of their other midfield targets this summer.
