Valencia are close to renewing Guido Rodríguez for two more seasons, a development that leaves Benfica’s Enzo Barrenechea further from a move to Mestalla.

Real Betis remain attentive to Barrenechea’s situation and could propose a loan with an option to buy while assuming his full salary, Estadio Deportivo reports. Their Champions League place next season could be an added attraction for the midfielder.

Valencia had been weighing midfield alternatives and Barrenechea was among the options considered.

Benfica are open to discussing his future this summer, with Marco Silva not viewing the Argentine as a priority.

Barrenechea has made 43 appearances and scored two goals for the Lisbon side, following a season on loan in Spain that brought 32 games, one goal and two assists. He cost around 15 million euros, a figure reached after clauses linked to sporting targets were activated.
