Virgil van Dijk has played down talk of Liverpool potentially winning a famous quadruple despite their blistering start to life under Arne Slot.
The Dutch manager has seamlessly replaced Jurgen Klopp, building on a solid foundation that now has Liverpool firing on all cylinders.
The Merseyside giants opened up a four-point lead at the top of the table after winning 6-3 at Tottenham Hotspur, and they still have the advantage of a game in hand.
Given their recent form – going unbeaten in 12 Premier League games – some people would argue that the title is theirs to lose from here on out.
Liverpool also sit comfortably at the top of the Champions League table after winning all six league phase games, establishing themselves as early favourites to lift the trophy.
Slot’s side booked their ticket to the League Cup semi-final with a 2-1 win over Southampton. While they’re yet to get the ball rolling in the FA Cup, Liverpool’s form has got many talking about a potential quadruple.
However, Van Dijk, who was named in the 2024 FIFPRO Men’s World11, has played down Liverpool’s chances of pulling off the near-impossible, insisting the Reds are only focused on the next game.
“I think I’ve given answers already many times that we don’t think what’s up there in May,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.
“I’m not getting dragged into any conversation about potentially winning a trophy or two, three or four – it’s all about being there each and every game that’s ahead of us.
“At the moment, there was Spurs – tough one – but we played a very good game, and next is Leicester [City], and that’s the only thing we have influence on.”
Liverpool’s next test pits them against Leicester City at Anfield, and they will head into that game as overwhelming favourites.
