Organised Vasco fan groups confronted the squad at CT Moacyr Barbosa on Monday afternoon after the 3-0 defeat to Bragantino, with Marino Hinestroza singled out.
According to Globo.com, supporters stopped players at the entrance in their cars to demand a response, directing insults at Hinestroza and urging him to ask to leave.
Every player was approached before entering. Carlos Cuesta, Barros and Thiago Mendes also heard messages of support alongside the criticism, including a claim that Cuesta and Robert Renan remain the preferred centre-backs.
Barros accepted the rebukes, saying he should be held to account. Fans also displayed a banner stating they would play for free and better than the current team.
The protest followed Sunday’s loss at São Januário, Vasco’s third straight defeat of the season. The side are on 20 points, down to 16th, only two points from the Z-4.
Renato Gaúcho’s team face Barracas Central on Wednesday at 19:00 in the final round of the Copa Sul-Americana group stage. On Sunday they meet Atlético-MG in the 18th round of the Brasileirão, the last match before the World Cup pause.
