Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has spoken out about his future amid speculation over his long-term future at Anfield.

The Reds defender has been a towering presence at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk, but has been very inconsistent with his performance this season.

The 26-year-old has a contract at the Merseyside club until the end of the season, and will leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

The French defender joined Liverpool in the summer of 2021 from RB Leipzig, and gradually established himself as a key player for the club.

Konate played a significant role last season and contributed to the Reds winning the Premier League for the 20th time in their history.

However, his contract situation remains a worry. Liverpool do not want to lose a player of his calibre for free, and several talks have taken place already, with no result.

Amid wild speculation on his future, Konate said: “I’ve seen a lot of things in the press recently. I don’t know where that’s coming from.

“My agents are continuing discussions with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made very soon so I can announce it.”

Bayern Munich in the race for Ibrahima Konate?

We reported earlier this month that Konate could be an option for Bayern if he refuses to sign a new deal at Liverpool.

Konate knows the Bundesliga very well and he could be a terrific signing for the Bavarian giants who are looking to sign a new defender next summer.

The Bavarian giants are facing a similar situation with Dayot Upamecano, who, like Konate, will become a free agent next summer and has yet to sign a new deal at the club.

Along with Konate, Bayern are also interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

It will be interesting to see what Konate ultimately decides. If he does not renew his contract, Bayern could be expected to move for him.
