The fourth round of Brazil’s Série A produced a flurry of viral moments. Globo.com highlights flashpoints from Palmeiras v Fluminense to anti-racism messages and a VAR storm.
At Arena Barueri, Jhon Arias faced Fluminense for the first time since returning to Brazil, and Palmeiras won. He greeted the Flu bench before kick-off, but many tricolores cast him as Judas from the stands.
On the pitch he promptly clattered Guga and was booked after seven minutes. Also in Barueri, Savarino shared a playful moment with former Botafogo team-mate Marlon Freitas’s shorts, and tempers rose after Fábio conceded a penalty on Vitor Roque. Palmeiras ended the round top of the table, with familiar chatter around Abel Ferreira.
At the Mineirão, under the eye of Ancelotti, Cruzeiro drew with Corinthians and remain winless in the Z-4, two points from 12 in 18th place. The crowd again sang “adeus, Tite”.
Matheus Pereira’s goal and wily celebration were the bright spots for the Raposa. Before kick-off, the Corinthians squad wore shirts bearing “racismo é crime” on the collar, days after goalkeeper Hugo Souza suffered racist abuse at Canindé following a Paulista quarter-final.
Elsewhere, Internacional and Remo, both still without a win this season, drew 1-1 at the Mangueirão in Belém on Wednesday. It was Remo’s third straight draw and Inter’s second in four, despite Inter hitting the woodwork twice in the final minute.
To close, Coritiba lost 1-0 to São Paulo at Couto Pereira, and the club’s admin raged at a VAR-awarded penalty. Morisco punched a cross and caught a São Paulo player, the referee reviewed and pointed to the spot.
