Wasquehal have been wound up after a court ordered their compulsory liquidation on Friday, ending a history spanning more than 100 years. According to L'Équipe, the club from the Lille suburbs had fought for months to survive.

Formed in 1945 from a merger of Union sportive de Wasquehal, founded in 1924, and Association sportive de Wasquehal, founded in 1929, the Nord club had been burdened by debt.

On the pitch, Wasquehal rose to Ligue Two in 1998, staying there until the end of the 2002-2003 season. Relegation followed and they lost professional status in 2004.

The slide continued to CFA Two in 2008, the fifth level of French football at the time.

Back in National Two in 2022, they managed to remain there for four seasons. In mid May the DNCG administratively relegated the club to Regional and excluded it from national competitions.
