The result now leaves Robin van Persie’s side six points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven after 13 games whilst AZ Alkmaar – in third position – are now only four points behind Feyenoord.
Here are the highlights with NEC’s substitute doing a Kenny McLean deep into stoppage time. Feyenoord’s forward play looks decent but their defending was certainly suspect and perhaps Johnny Kenny can get some joy with headers of our wingers can actually get a cross into the box.
Celtic’s upcoming European opponents are also facing injury worries for the game on Thursday evening in Rotterdam. Former Celtic transfer target Cyle Larin is expected to sit out the encounter due to an injury sustained while on international duty.
Feyenoord boss van Persie has revealed that only four fit midfielders will be available for selection for their game against the Scottish champions.
Celtic are dealing with a series of injury problems themselves, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, James Forrest, Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi are all expected to be missing leaving a thin squad for Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney to choose from.

However, the Dutch side are also struggling with injuries, as van Persie confirmed that Canadian forward Larin and defender Givairo Read will both be unavailable. Speaking via Daily Record, the ex-Manchester United striker said: “Both Cyle and Givairo will be missing for at least a couple of weeks. It’s far from ideal.”
“At the moment, I currently only have four fit midfielders available – Oussama Targhalline, Sem Steijn, Luciano Valente and Quinten Timber.”
“So it’s clearly going to be a very challenging few weeks for us. Our last game against Go Ahead Eagles was a mess. We discussed the decisions we made as a team because we didn’t stick to our principles.”
“We’ve addressed everything and we’re ready to put things right in our games this week. I’m only approaching them this way because I know these guys can do it.”
Now 30, Larin was heavily linked with Celtic during his time at Orlando City seven years ago, but he opted for a move to Besiktas and later played for Club Brugge and Mallorca before joining Feyenoord on loan.

Martin O’Neill, in what is set to be his penultimate match in temporary charge of Celtic – and his second and final Europa League match – has estimated that Celtic will need a minimum of ten points to qualify for the play-off round, so with four points from the first four games Celtic really need to collect something in Rotterdam on Thursday evening.
Despite Feyenoord losing four goals at home at the weekend, it is still going to be a tough ask for this threadbare Celtic side but we live in hope.
