West Ham United‘s hopes of landing Aston Villa target Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain look to be over given the level of competition for the forward’s signature.

The Hammers are now playing in the Championship, but have their recruitment books full of players they looked at when they were in the Premier League and Mbaye is amongst them.

Mbaye is keen to move on from the Parc des Princes this summer, despite his entourage having tried to talk him into staying put.

Aston Villa are amongst the clubs keen on landing Mbaye, but the interest has only grown over recent weeks.

Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and AC Milan have now entered the race, according to French outlet PSG Inside Actus.

As such, it is suggested that West Ham, who have been keen to take Mbaye to the London Stadium, ‘now seem to have very little chance of winning him over’.

West Ham look to be feeling the effect of the loss of their Premier League status and it is unlikely that Mbaye, with a number of top options, will entertain a move to the Hammers.

Aston Villa could be better placed, especially with Champions League football and an exciting project under Unai Emery to sell.

However, even the Villa Park side will need to work hard to win Mbaye over, with his entourage not just looking for ‘the best sporting project’, but also seeking ‘the most attractive contract possible’.

Playing in European football is also a big consideration for the 18-year-old forward.

Mbaye, a Senegal international, came through the youth set-up at PSG and broke into the first team mix in the 2024/25 campaign.

He went to the World Cup with Senegal and scored in his country’s defeat to France, in the process becoming the youngest African player to score at the tournament.

The attacker, if he gets his wish, will leave PSG having won Ligue 1 twice, the Champions League twice and the French Cup once.
