There had been some questions about Mason Greenwood’s (23) status at Olympique de Marseille as the season came to an end, and there were reports that the Ligue 1 joint-top scorer was not one of the club’s ‘untouchables’ that they would not consider selling in the summer.
However, RMC Sport now reports that it would take Marseille receiving a huge financial offer, one that a club of their size could not simply refuse, to sell the former Manchester United player. With this in mind, they are instead looking to find recruits to complement his skillset, in particular a left-winger, following the departure of Luis Henrique (23) to Internazionale Milan.
The French outlet writes that in the end-of-season review between the shareholders, club executives, and head coach, the desire to keep hold of key players (such as Greenwood, Adrien Rabiot, and Leonardo Balerdi) was one of the topics discussed, and that De Zerbi is counting on his club building around these players.
Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United last summer. The striker was charged in 2022 with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault. Those charges were dropped in 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witness evidence and testimony.
