Sheffield Wednesday recently confirmed the signing of Nathan Redmond
New Sheffield Wednesday signing Nathan Redmond could be thrust straight into action after putting pen to paper with the cash-strapped Owls.
The Championship strugglers were severely limited in their transfer business this summer due to former owner Dejphon Chansiri’s financial mismanagement, which saw them hit with a number of embargoes.
This impacted their transfer business, limiting Wednesday to just loan deals for Harry Amass and Ethan Horvath. Given that regulars such as Josh Windass, Djeidi Gassama and Michael Smith all left Hillsborough without suitable replacements, the Steel City side’s performances subsequently suffered.
A threadbare squad and an over-reliance on youth prospects has left Wednesday trailing behind the rest of the division at the bottom of the Championship, with an automatic 12-point penalty for going into administration also not helping matters.
This administrative state allowed them to be given permission to sign two free agents, to help lift some of the physical load off the other members of the squad. Former Leeds United captain Liam Cooper was snapped up first, with one-time England international Nathan Redmond recently announced as the next.

Redmond has an impressive amount of pedigree within the game, having spent almost a decade operating out of the Premier League with Southampton and Norwich City.
After becoming a free agent in the summer, Wednesday’s new signing spent time training with city rivals Sheffield United, but the Blades opted against securing his services.
Instead, that privilege has fallen to Henrik Pedersen’s side and it might not be too long before the Hillsborough outfit get to see their latest addition in action.
According to journalist Dom Howson, the 31-year-old could make his Wednesday debut as early as this weekend against Preston North End at home.
Wednesday head into the clash having suffered three defeats in as many matches, including last weekend's 3-0 home rout at the hands of fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday, while the play-off aspiring Lilywhites are winless in the last three but have only lost one of their last six outings.
Redmond had been training with the club before signing permanently, with his deal currently set to expire in January.
The experienced wide-man will be playing to try and earn a longer deal at Wednesday, which will be helped if the club find new owners by then, while you also imagine that Pedersen will want Redmond to remain in his ranks beyond January.

Given how little business Wednesday could complete during the summer, bringing someone in with Redmond’s expertise is a brilliant move from Pedersen.
He has played at the highest level for an extended period of time and was even rewarded with an England cap during his peak.
Whilst perhaps no longer at that level, the forward’s experience will be a vital asset for other, much younger members of the squad to learn from.
Redmond should also still have the necessary skill to cause opposition defences some serious problems in the Championship, which may see the Owls put some more points on the board.
