Jamal Musiala is set to make his next comeback with FC Bayern. After having a metal plate removed from his left foot, the national team player is expected to return to training in the coming days. The record champions are following a clear rehabilitation plan—with a specific goal in mind.

Jamal Musiala’s ordeal could soon be over for good. About three weeks after his scheduled surgery to remove a metal plate from his left foot, the star forward is on the verge of returning to the training field.

As reported by the tz , Musiala is expected back at Säbener Straße on Friday. While his teammates head to South Korea on Saturday for the Audi Summer Tour, the 23-year-old will remain in Munich to continue working on his comeback.

Bayern has a clear plan for his return

Next week, Musiala is scheduled to train individually at first. As soon as the team returns from Asia, the next step is planned: a return to team training.

If everything goes according to plan, the national team player could make his comeback as early as August 22 in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.

There are high hopes at FC Bayern that, following the removal of the foreign object, Musiala will be able to play again in the future without any discomfort. The metal plate in his foot had been there since his serious injury at the Club World Cup in the summer of 2025.

However, with his imminent return, the competitive pressure is also mounting.

In his latest Sky column, Lothar Matthäus made it clear that Musiala must now consistently perform at a high level again following his long injury layoff. “At some point, he has to put the serious injury he sustained over a year ago behind him. He needs to finally get that out of his head,” explained the all-time leading German international.

Matthäus sees the strong competition in the offense, in particular, as an additional challenge. “Serge Gnabry has shown, in his interplay with Harry Kane, that they work together exceptionally well. We also know that Michael Olise and Lennart Karl can play in the number 10 position,” emphasized the 65-year-old.

National team coach Jürgen Klopp also recently commented on Michael Olise’s role. Following Olise’s strong performances in the center of the attack at the World Cup, the DFB coach, speaking as a MagentaTV analyst, said: “The passes he played to Kylian Mbappé were outstanding. I’m curious to see who at Bayern will tell Olise that he’s playing on the wing again.”

Nevertheless, Matthäus believes Vincent Kompany is capable of finding the right balance in the offense. At the same time, he sent a clear message to Musiala: “Musiala showed promise at Bayern toward the end of the season, and there were also promising moments at the World Cup. But there are no more excuses now.”
